Dolphin
Watch Cruises and Ferry Services
Cruising Port Stephens and the Myall Lakes, the local dolphin
cruises offer you the unforgettable experience of seeing friendly
dolphins at play in their natural environment. Departing at
various times through the day these cruises are fun and informative,
as well as a great way to see more of the beautiful Myall
Coast.
Ferries, such as Simba and Port Stephens Ferry Services, depart
daily from Tea Gardens with one way and return trips to Nelson
Bay, starting from 10am.
Whale
Watching
Coinciding with the bi-annual blooming of the Gymea Lillies,
an estimated 3,000 whales pass by Port Stephens, travelling
to the warm waters of the north in June, then back down south
during October. You can witness this incredible spectacle
aboard one of the whale watching cruises. Cruises such as
Moonshadow cruises offer you the opportunity to witness this
ultimate wildlife experience with daily departures from Nelson
Bay, Port Stephens.
Fishing
and Game Fishing
The Myall waterways are a fisherman's paradise, offering river,
bay and beach fishing all year round. Bait, tackle, maps and
licences are available through several local businesses.
Join in the thrill of game fishing. Half and full day charters
are available, catering for all ages and all levels of experience.
NSW Game Fish Association Interclub Competition
This is Port Stephens largest fishing competition, with approximately
1100 anglers / 250 boats participating. Held annually over
the last weekend in February and the first weekend in March.
Myall
Waterways and Port Stephens
Hire a boat, or bring your own and explore the magnificent
waterways. The Myall River meanders for 20 kms past fishermen's
huts, prawn shots and rainforest to the quaint fishing village
of Tamboi, before opening into the Myall Lakes systems. There
are good fishing and picnic spots along the way. The northern
shores of Port Stephens has a multitude of beaches, bays and
inlets to explore and some great fishing spots.
Golf
Enjoy a round or two at Hawks Nest Golf Club; a quality

4WD
There a various access points for 4WD enthusiasts to explore
the local beaches and National Parks on established tracks.
Beach permits are required in some instances and these are
available from Council Office and Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest
Liquor Supply.
Bushwalking
Hawks Nest has a number of walking trails which can be easily
traced from the town to the natural environments of the Myall
River, Swan Bay and Myall Lakes National Park.
Water Activities
A great way for all ages to enjoy picturesque Port Stephens
